Free Hiking Guide on Hong Kong Urban Trail – Dragon Back Trail

Dragon is a mysterious animal representing power and Royal family in Traditional Chinese Culture. What if I tell you that you can step on a dragon’s back?

‘Dragon’s Back’ is one of the most popular and wonderful urban hiking trail in Hong Kong. It is a mountain ridge in southeastern Hong Kong Island passing through Shek O Peak. Mountain ridge is often regarded as a dragon’s back in Chinese Fung Shui  You can see spectacular views of southern Hong Kong island and its shoreline on the peak. The view is just so amazing! Right at the trail’s end is the Big Wave Bay, the eastern coast of Hong Kong Island.  The Dragon’s Back Trail was selected by CNN as one of the world’s 23 best trails in 2019 and was considered the “Best Urban Hike in Asia” by Time Magazine in 2004. It is a perfect trail for novice hiker and involves a relaxed walk under shade at the later part. The starting point is easily accessed by public transport.


  1. Take MTR to Shau Kei Wan Station (Island Line)
  2. Take Exit A3 and find the Bus No.9 at Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus.
  3. Get off the bus at “To Tei Wan, Dragon’s Back” stop, which will be the stop 11.
  4. Then you will see the signpost pointing to Dragon Back’s Trail

After getting off from the Bus No.9, you will see this signpost
